Hygiene Assistant
Overall Responsibility
Hygiene Assistants are responsible for patient clerical duties and charting maintenance duties. Their primary function involves assisting the hygienist to enhance efficiency and productivity. Patient interaction occurs at the hygienist’s discretion, with the goal of developing the assistant’s knowledge to better serve patients.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities
- Ensure treatment room is stocked, sterilized and setup for each appointment
- Greet and introduce position to each patient
- Update health history and information upon each visit (if hygienist requests)
- Chart and document all procedures performed and indicate next treatment
- Work with clinical staff to maintain proper appearance of lab and treatment rooms
- Chart procedures to include patient conditions, medical and dental histories, treatment procedures and patient comments
- Expose and develop radiographs (if certified)
- Reinforce treatment recommendations
- Coordinate office recall system with the hygienist
- Maintain inventory control in hygiene rooms
- Share maintenance duties as required
- Sterilize instruments
- Perform recurring and routine work independently
- Assist in monitoring schedule and confirming appointments as workload allows
- Other duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED
- X-Ray Certification
